New Years Eve in Penticton

I've heard that the way you spend New Year's Eve is the way that you'll spend the coming year. If that's the case, I can look forward to a great year with good friends, good music, beautiful scenery and snowboarding.

Full story and photos after the jump!

I pulled out of Edmonton around 7 a.m. on December 29th on a bus full of other snowboarders and skiers. We were on our way to Penticton, BC, to spend a couple of days riding Apex Mountain. The bus ride was long, but with the dance beats cranked and everyones energy combined, we all managed to stay awake for most of it.

Penticton took us in with open arms. A huge thanks goes out to Element Nightclub for putting up with our antics every night of the trip.

Apex, for being a small mountain, still offered some great runs. Heading down the backside of the mountain through the glades showcased some of the greatest views of the mountains I've ever seen.

The real treat of the weekend, though, was hitting up Big White in Kelowna on the way home. A huge mountain with a lot of great runs, and for how busy it was, it was seemingly untouched. A few of us hooked up and rode the same run 2 or 3 times and found tons of powder, tons of trees, and a lot of great hits.

After riding the top of the mountain with a few of the Backside guides, I headed into the park for a couple quick shots to finish off the day.

After a long 14 hour drive back from BC, we made it back to Edmonton in one piece. I couldn't have been happier to crawl into my own bed after a seriously lack of sleep from the previous 4 days, but I couldn't have been happier to have been a part of them

A huge thanks to Backside Tours (www.backsidetours.com) for bringing me on the trip. They're a great family of winter sports lovers, and if you ever want to plan a snowboard/ski, golf, or surf trip, these are the people to plan it with. I look forward to going on a lot more of these trips and continuing to work with such an awesome team.
